Distance drew Keenan, age 27 and Christina, age 27, together. Although they met in the summer of 2005 when she interned at his Washington, DC based office; they did not begin to date until a year later. Christina moved away to work in Reno, and in the summer of 2006 Keenan flew out to visit her and they made a spontaneous road trip through California, before Christina moved back east to attend grad school. After that trip, they thought their friendship was over- but reconciled later over a toasted peanut butter and jelly sandwich and became inseparable. Just nine months later Christina was deployed for a year to Iraq as an Army reservist. When Christina returned home, the couple took a week long cruise, and at the first port-of-call Keenan proposed to her under a deserted ocean front gazebo. With tears in his eyes, he recited a poem he had written describing his love for her. They were married March 26, 2009 at Ceresville Mansion in Fredericksburg, MD, with an intimate reception immediately following the ceremony.

Since family and friends are really important to the couple, they framed dozens of pictures of friends and family from special occasions over the years and placed them all over the mansion. It made for great conversation as guests arrived. After the wedding, guests were given the photos as souvenirs.

A decorated branch represented the tree of life and was a creative way to represent the couple. Pictures of the bride and groom throughout the different stages of their lives were hanging from the branch. It was also a "wishing tree" that had envelopes and cards for people to write down well wishes and advice or to give monetary donations towards the couple’s honeymoon in Greece.

The ceremony was unique and special because it was an interfaith union. The officiant created his own ceremony. For the unity candle lighting, the mother of the bride and the mother of the groom lit individual candles to represent the life they gave to the bride and groom. The couple then used those candles to light one large candle that represented their union. The couple’s first dance was to Spend My Life by Eric Benet and Tamia. Everyone involved in the wedding was a member of the bride or groom’s family, from the wedding coordinator to the DJ.

The bride is a graduate of Bloomsburg University, and will receive her Masters of Science in Instructional Technology from Towson University in December 2009. She is currently a training coordinator and instructional designer for the nationally recognized Baltimore-based continuing education provider, Care Resources. The groom is a graduate of Tuskegee University and is a developer for the Office of the Chief Technology Officer in Washington, D.C. The couple plans to honeymoon in the Greek Islands and will continue to make their home in Washington D.C.
