LITTLE CAYMAN - A Relaxation Paradise
by Rita Cook

When you can ride your bike from one end of the island to the other then you know you are in paradise. When you can sleep until noon and hear the waves crashing just outside the door of the villa then you know you have found your little piece of heaven. When you can walk along the shore and dive in some of the best waters then you know you are home – or at least you know where you are planning to retire someday.

Little Cayman is just such a place. It is every bit Caribbean – in other words, laid back, and not necessarily ideal for the person who wants to go, go, go all day and party all night. The Southern Cross Club on the island embodies this relaxing spirit, and is a favorite of scuba divers and easygoing honeymooners.

With only 10 square miles making up the island you can enjoy an unspoiled habitat with natural beauty and plenty to do. Hike the salt rock nature trail and discover the orchids, butterflies and birds along the way, or snorkel in the shallow reef. Divers, spend the day diving the famous Bloody Bay Wall.

If bird watching is your thing, you’ve come to the right place. Booby Pond Nature Reserve is an internationally known wetland offering the largest colony of red-footed booby with over 5000 pairs. With raised viewing platforms and an observation deck with high-powered telescopes available, you’re sure to catch a glimpse! There is also a frigatebird colony and a large heronry.

No matter the reason, if you want one of the best hideaways in the Caribbean then Little Cayman and the Southern Cross Club is the place to visit. Be careful who you tell though, because 10 miles of pristine, natural beauty is a secret to save for only the best of friends.
